I-Mab Biopharma

Designing a globally-ready website for a biotech company

Overview

I-Mab was founded in 2016 to develop precision immuno-oncology therapies within China’s growing biologics market. As the company prepared for broader international visibility, its digital presence needed to evolve.

We partnered with I-Mab’s marketing team to redesign their entire website — creating a multilingual, scalable platform capable of communicating complex science clearly to global investors, partners, and stakeholders.

The Challenge

Their existing website was limiting both operational agility and international communication.

As the company prepared for global exposure, they needed a website that could support international credibility and internal efficiency at the same time.

Technical

  • The website was hardcoded and not multilingual.
  • Marketing updates — including pipeline announcements and company news — required vendor support, slowing down communication in a fast-moving biotech environment.

Strategic

The website did not clearly communicate:
  • The structure of their pipeline
  • The science behind their immuno-oncology platform
  • Their commercialisation model and partnerships

information architecture

Information Architecture

The website did not clearly communicate:
  • Audited the existing site
  • Identified structural gaps
  • Proposed a restructured sitemap
  • Clarified page hierarchies and navigation logic
Through low and high-fidelity wireframes, we collaborated in stages, allowing their team to refine messaging in parallel with design development.

Designing for Clarity

Immuno-oncology is inherently complex. A core objective of this biotech website design project was to simplify technical communication without diluting scientific accuracy.

Cutting-edge Science

We redesigned the “Science” section into an interactive experience. Using their existing illustration library, we created structured scrolling animations and diagrams.

These visual explanations improved engagement while making advanced scientific concepts more accessible.

Commercialisation & Value creation

We also redesigned the commercialisation section to clearly communicate:
  • Strategic partnerships
  • Value creation model
  • Long-term positioning
Improved layout hierarchy and sequencing strengthened credibility with international investors and partners evaluating the company.

Multilingual Infrastructure & Marketing Autonomy

Replacing a rigid, hardcoded system with a scalable CMS reduced dependency on external vendors and empowered the internal marketing team to manage the site independently.

For a biotech company operating in a dynamic research and regulatory landscape, this agility was critical.
The new platform enabled:
  • Multilingual functionality (English and Chinese)
  • Self-managed pipeline updates
  • Scheduled news publishing
  • Editable career listings
  • Direct investor and partner contact forms

Outcome

The redesigned website provided I-Mab with:
  • A multilingual digital presence aligned with international expansion
  • Improved clarity in communicating complex immuno-oncology science
  • A scalable system for ongoing updates and announcements
  • Greater autonomy for internal marketing operations
  • A credible investor-facing platform supporting global ambitions
By combining strategic information architecture, scientific storytelling, and flexible infrastructure, the new website positioned I-Mab for its next phase of growth beyond China.
